Anne Rice, Interview with the Vampire

Interview with the Vampire is a unique masterpiece among vampire novels. The most important reason is Anne Rice make a new definition of vampire in this story. It is different from some early vampire novels that I know. That is, the vampire in this story is a self-conscious existence. It has internal conflict and dresses like a teenage Goth.
The leading protagonist in Interview with the Vampire is Louis de Pointe du Lac, the broodiest among all vampires. His description of his tale is so impressive and interesting. He shows his external inner torment of a vampire who is forced to live with Lestat, his overbearing creator. He also talks about a five-year-old young vampire named Cloudia, who is a female that is trapped in a child’s torso forever. These novel descriptions of vampires remind me of one important thing--immortality can be so unappealing.

Also, the way that the author writes this book is appealing. The central part of this novel is the monologue of Louis de Pointe du Lac. He tells his life and experience during the last two hundred years. And the writer that is recording the interview is a “boy”. This writing technique is so amazing to me.
